The Urban List

Though roller skating has been on an upward trajectory for a while now, it’s really come back in a big way this year. There’s been a recent surge in popularity due to ice skaters getting roller skates to train in lockdown as the ice rinks were all closed. The more you know.

Lucky for us, you don’t have to be an ice skater in lockdown to get your skate on these days. Roller skating legend Macarena (founder of Hey Macarena) is teaming up with Crazy Eights Roller Skates to host a Studio 54, 70’s-themed roller disco on December 5 2020. A word to the wise—their first roller skating event was a sell out hit so get in quick.

With a DJ spinning epic beats, market stalls featuring handmade, local vintage goodies, photo walls and even a food truck to fuel your sweet, sweet moves this is guaranteed to be a three hour roller skate groove-fest so start planning your 70’s themed costume now.

If your roller skating skills are a bit rusty, no issues! There are roller skating classes in Auckland at ActivZone to help you prep.

Sound like a bit of you? Get rolling here to grab your tickets.
