Hello, welcome to our brand new blog!
I’m excited to finally get this on the road after a long time of pondering and planning. What better way to do it than posting a favourite recipe of mine? Unfortunately, on this occasion I forgot the baking soda so it didn’t behave like it was meant to. However, it is still delicious toasted and smeared with peanut butter. This is a very sweet banana bread that helps regulate your blood sugar. It’s high in energy, but will keep you feeling full throughout training.
So how can it be sweet, contain no sugar nor animal products and keep you full?

Cinnamon has been proven to help reduce insulin resistance (source). Chia and flax seeds are also featured in this recipe and also help reduce the blood sugar spike after a meal.
Chia seeds are a super food. They have many health benefits but in summary, they aid weight loss, help keep you feeling full because of their high fiber content, they contain good fatty acids, antioxidants and high quality proteins. All things we like to look for in pre workout food.
That’s enough boring stuff, here’s the recipe:
Ingredients
- 2c very ripe, mashed bananas
- 1tsp vanilla essence
- 2c flour (I chose 1c coconut flour and 1c oat flour but it would work with wholegrain or any other type)
- 1tsp baking powder
- 1tsp baking soda
- 1tsp cinnamon
- 1/2c finely chopped dates
- 2tbsp ground flax seed + 6tbsp water + 2tsp chia seeds OR 2 eggs
Method
Preheat oven to 150C
Mix your flax, chia and water mixture in a bowl then let sit until gooey.
Mash the banana and add vanilla essence. In another bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon. Add the chopped dates then the banana mixture. The dough should be super dense.
Bake for 50-60min.
