As most of you know, I spend 90% of my day on my phone. So naturally, I have a few favourites that help me with my fitness goals. 

As always, the apps target your physical and mental well being. Some of these are probably familiar to my skaters as I use them and recommend them so often! So let’s just jump right in!

1. Nike Training Club

First up, as you probably guessed, is the Nike training club app. Of course it had to be first. If you follow me on instagram (@hey_macarenafitness) you will know how much I geek out over this lil treasure. I’m obsessed. 

Why you need this in your life

  • Fully customisable, personalised workout programmes with NO equipment or as much equipment as you like
  • Beginner workout plans (no previous experience required!)
  • Video tutorials of EVERY exercise
  • The mobility section is 10/10 for those rest days or after a hard training session

And if that’s not enough to convince you, you can add cute stickers to your photos and make them look like they’re straight out of a Nike ad campaign. 

2. Smiling Mind

Ok so you already know you should be training your mind as well as your body. On this blog I love preaching about mental training. But how? Well here’s your answer. 

This app is your new best friend for mental training. It teaches you how to meditate from scratch. No previous experience needed. Just select a programme that suits you, and away you go! There’s even a sport related programme you can start to help you at training!

Why you need this in your life:

  • It’s as easy as putting headphones in and listening to the calming voice tell you when and how to breathe
  • Teaches you mindfulness so you can lead a more peaceful life
  • Declutters your brain for a few minutes
  • Gives you an excuse to have a lil nap in the middle of your day
  • Helps you sleep!

3. Interval Timer

I feel like this app should already have been downloaded and saved in your favourites. This is perfect for interval cardio workouts or stretch sessions so you don’t have to keep looking at the clock! Just follow the beeps as you move through the stretches! Beautifully paired with my free stretch guide!

Why you need this in your life:

  • There are endless ways to use this. You could time your planks and rest the appropriate amount, stretch, interval cardio workouts…
  • You can save and name different timer set ups so it’s easy to find which routine you want to use
  • It keeps track of when and how long you used each routine for. Perfect for staying accountable!!
